The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has warned motorists to expect a three-hour traffic disruption this weekend following a planned partial road closure to facilitate infrastructure works.
In a statement dated August 6, KURA announced that part of Outer Ring Road will be partially closed on Saturday, August 8, between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The authority said the temporary closure is necessary to allow for the safe removal of an overhead gantry at the affected section of the road.
“Motorists are informed of a partial closure of Outer Ring Road on Saturday, 8th August 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., to facilitate the removal of a gantry at the location indicated in the attached sketch,” KURA explained.
KURA apologized for the temporary inconvenience and advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, as traffic management measures will be in place throughout the scheduled works.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the authority stated.
KURA Map Reveals Exact Location and Timeline of Planned Road Closure
KURA’s traffic management map shows that the planned works will take place on Outer Ring Road near the Airport North Road junction in Nairobi, where an overhead gantry is scheduled for removal.

The works will be carried out in three phases. From 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., machinery will be moved into position while traffic continues under restricted speeds.
Between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., the affected section will be closed to traffic to allow the gantry to be removed safely. The road will reopen from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with motorists required to drive at reduced speeds as the work site is cleared.
The map identifies Outer Ring Road as the main route and highlights nearby roads including Airport North Road, Thika Road, Juja Road, Jogoo Road and Manyanja Road.
It also includes a detailed inset showing the work zone, traffic control points and the precise location of the gantry removal.
Alternative Routes Motorists Can Use During the Closure
Motorists traveling through the affected section can consider using Mombasa Road, Airport South Road and Airport North Road to bypass the closure, depending on their destination.

Drivers approaching from the CBD or Thika Road can connect through Mombasa Road, then use Airport South Road to access Airport North Road without passing through the affected junction.
Those traveling on Outer Ring Road from the Thika Road direction may divert earlier via Enterprise Road, which connects to Mombasa Road and provides access to nearby destinations without reaching the closure point.
For local trips, motorists can also use roads through Embakasi and Pipeline to reconnect to Airport North Road or Airport South Road, helping avoid the work zone.
Drivers approaching from Mombasa Road or Airport South Road are advised to remain on those routes and use local connecting roads where necessary instead of joining the affected section of Outer Ring Road.
