Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has launched a scathing attack on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of hypocrisy and poor leadership.
Moses Kuria in a series of statements on June 27 that have intensified the political rift between the two leaders criticized Gachagua for making public complaints about various issues under his jurisdiction.
“The Chair of Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC), who talks about ‘One Man One Vote One Shilling’ in funerals, also coordinates the Constitutional Commission and Independent Offices, including the Commission for Revenue Allocation,” Kuria stated.
“He is the Chair of Nairobi Rivers Commission yet complains about demolitions done by his office. He is in the National Security Council yet complains about the Director of the National Intelligence Service. It was enough to have a President who is a teetotaler,” he added.
Friction Over Demolitions
The tensions escalated following Gachagua’s comments on June 26, 2024, during a press briefing, where he expressed his disapproval of the demolitions in Nairobi.
Gachagua criticized the manner in which the demolitions were conducted, highlighting their impact on residents and businesses.

He insisted that there should be a more humane approach to such actions.
Responding to Gachagua’s concerns, Kuria pointed out the contradictions in the Deputy President’s stance.
“He complains about demolitions carried out by his office, yet he is the chair of the Nairobi Rivers Commission,” Kuria remarked.
Additional, Kuria referenced a committee meeting on the Finance Bill, chaired by Gachagua, which endorsed VAT for milk and bread.
“The Committee meeting that endorsed the original Finance Bill which included VAT for milk and bread was chaired by the Deputy President. What a lying, dishonorable man!” Kuria exclaimed.
Friction Between Kuria and Gachagua
This exchange marks the latest episode in the ongoing friction between the two leaders, raising questions about the unity and coherence within the government’s top ranks.

Gachagua’s office has yet to respond to Kuria’s latest comments.
However, the Deputy President earlier on emphasized the need for unity and better service delivery, urging leaders to focus on their responsibilities rather than engaging in political infighting.
The political landscape remains tense as the public watches how this feud will unfold and what impact it will have on the government’s ability to address critical issues facing the nation.
