Lawyer Danstan Omari has officially announced his intention to run for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
While speaking in a media interview, Omari’s main motivation for seeking this position is to ensure that the funds allocated to Nairobi County by the government are used effectively, a responsibility he believes the current Senator, Edwin Sifuna, has not fulfilled.
“My brother Sifuna came into office on the wave of ODM; he didn’t come in as Sifuna. I want to come in as Omari—someone who has been in court, defended hawkers, touts, boda boda riders, and listened to the business community,” said Omari.
He added, “The business community is not just about multibillionaires or multinational companies. It begins with the smallest individual with just a few shillings. That is the voice missing in the Senate.”
Omari to vie for Nairobi Senatorial race
Danstan stressed that Nairobi needs a strong, articulate, and focused leader who can stand firm in the face of challenges.
“This is the city where the Head of State resides. This is the City of Africa. It cannot have a Senator who lacks a strong profile,” he asserted.
When asked why he chose to run in Nairobi instead of his home county of Nyamira, Omari explained that Nairobi’s cosmopolitan nature aligns with his broader vision and identity.

He emphasized that he has grown from his roots in Nyamira to being a national and international figure, making Nairobi the ideal platform for his senatorial ambitions.
However, Omari has not yet revealed the political party he plans to represent.
“When you see someone clinging to a party, that person lacks credentials. I will stand—whether as an independent candidate or under a party. I will promote my policies as Danstan Omari,” he said.
