The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has lectured Iran over the dispute in the Strait of Hormuz, calling for urgent diplomatic efforts to achieve a swift and lasting resolution to the conflict in the Middle East, stressing that no effort must be spared to reach a stable settlement through negotiations.
In a statement on April 13, he emphasized the need for a strong and lasting regional framework that would allow all parties to live in peace and security, built on sustained diplomatic engagement.
“No effort must be spared to swiftly achieve a solid and lasting resolution to the conflict in the Middle East through diplomatic means,” Macron said.
Macron said the approach aims to restore freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway and address broader regional security issues through sustained international negotiations involving multiple countries.
France Calls for Comprehensive Middle East Solutions Covering Iran, Lebanon, and the Strait of Hormuz Security
Macron further stated that all core issues in the Middle East conflict must be addressed through lasting diplomatic solutions to achieve long-term regional stability.
He highlighted concerns over Iran’s nuclear and ballistic activities, as well as its broader regional actions, describing them as issues that require durable political solutions.
Macron also stressed the importance of restoring free and unimpeded navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible to safeguard regional and global maritime routes.
He further called for Lebanon to return to the path of peace while fully respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“To that end, all the core issues must be addressed through lasting solutions, whether with regard to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic activities, its destabilizing actions in the region, the need to restore free and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible, as well as the need to ensure that Lebanon returns to the path of peace in full respect of its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Macron noted.
In his statement, he reaffirmed that France stands ready to play a full and consistent role in diplomatic efforts, as it has done since the start of the conflict.
Macron Announces UK-Backed Conference on Strait of Hormuz Maritime Security Mission
The President stated that, regarding the Strait of Hormuz, France will work with the United Kingdom in the coming days to organize a conference bringing together countries willing to contribute to a peaceful, multinational mission to restore freedom of navigation in the strait.

“We will organize with the United Kingdom, in the coming days, a conference with countries ready to contribute alongside us to a peaceful multinational mission,” Macron announced.
He said the initiative will seek participation from partner states willing to support coordinated efforts to enhance maritime security in the strategic waterway, emphasizing that the proposed mission will be strictly defensive and operate separately from the parties involved in the conflict.
Additionally, he said that the deployment of the mission is intended to take place as soon as circumstances allow.
