United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General (SG) Cleophas Malala has addressed reports of a possible merger between the ruling party and the Amani National Congress (ANC) affiliated to Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi.
Speaking on April 15, Malala praised Mudavadi for hinting that the ANC party will dissolve and join President William Ruto’s UDA.
“I must congratulate Mudavadi for accepting that we must work together going forward. He insinuated that ANC is ready to start discussions with UDA on a possible merger,” Malala said.
Malala urged ANC SG Omboko Milemba to respect Mudavadi’s decision and follow in his footsteps.
“Ombi langu kwa SG wa ANC na wanachama wengine ni wafuate nyayo za kiongozi wao Musalia Mudavadi,” he said.
This loosely translates to “My request to ANC SG and the other party members is that they should follow the footsteps of their party leader Mudavadi.”
Malala said President Ruto is willing to work with political parties interested to merge with UDA in order to create one big party.
Mudavadi ANC Merger Hint
Speaking in a past event in Bomet, Mudavadi hinted at dissolving the ANC and working with the ruling party.
The Prime CS said ANC will hold talks with UDA to discuss their working relationships ahead of the 2027 elections.
Further, Mudavadi noted that he would make a major announcement after the merger talks.
However, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba opposed the reports arguing that ANC is an important party that should not be folded.
According to him, ANC will continue providing an alternative avenue for politicians seeking elective posts.
“ANC will be a very important party and that is why we shall not fold the party, because this is the other baseline that will accommodate any other candidate here and there. We shall also be shopping for the best candidate,” he said.

UDA Future Plans-Malala
Malala encouraged small parties to dissolve and join UDA so that the ruling party can be vibrant in the future.
He affirmed that their move is legal since the Constitution allows for merger of political parties.
According to Malala, one big political party will promote easy political coordination, easy governance, and adherence to the Constitution.
“When there is one big party there is discipline in the leadership of the nation. We want to have parties that promote national unity and not these ones based on tribes,” he said.

Malala said there are small parties that cannot draw support beyond a few wards or constituencies, adding that they should be folded to form one big political party that represents the face of the whole country.
“We want such parties to bring the national pictures with all the tribes included. We don’t want a party to be restricted to one tribe, one clan or one family,” Malala said.
He also asked Kenyans to register as members of the UDA party and participate in the upcoming party grassroot elections.
