Maranda High School is a boys’ national public boarding school located in Bondo, Siaya County. Established in 1919 by the late Shadrack Osewe Agot, a divinity teacher from Kapiyo village in the then-Bondo District, the institution began as a small center teaching reading, writing, and Christianity, primarily to the elderly.
In 1926, formal elementary education was introduced at the school with support from the Church Missionary Society (CMS).
The following year, in 1927, Maranda transitioned into a boarding institution. Over time, the school expanded and evolved into one of Kenya’s most prestigious secondary schools.
With a capacity of over 3,000 students, Maranda offers a broad curriculum complemented by a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, and debate.
It has produced many prominent leaders in various fields, including politics, business, and academia. Maranda High School is renowned for its exceptional academic performance, consistently achieving top results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Notably, the school ranked first nationally in 2011 and has regularly featured among the top ten in subsequent years.

In the 2024 KCSE examinations, Maranda had 562 candidates, with more than 95% achieving the minimum university entry grade under full government sponsorship.
56 students scored a straight A, while 150 scored an A-. Additionally, 131 students attained a B+, 104 scored a B, while 67 managed a B-.

In addition, 30 students scored a C+, 18 scored a C, 5 scored grade C-, and the lowest grade recorded was a D, obtained by one student.
The school’s impressive performance continued in 2024, with candidates achieving a mean score of 9.6975 — a slight improvement of 0.1182 from the mean score recorded in the 2023 KCSE.
School Fees
The government had earlier set a directive specifying the maximum yearly school fees that parents are expected to pay.
As part of the Ministry of Education’s 2020 guidelines, Kenya’s 103 national schools were divided into four clusters.
Maranda High School was categorized under the Cluster One (I), which places the official annual fee limit at around Ksh75,798 per student.

However, the total fees payable to the school in 2025 for Form 2, 3, and 4 students was Ksh85,798, inclusive of a Ksh22,244 government capitation.
