Speaking during a church service in Makutano, Meru, on Sunday, March 30, Murkomen said that the government is committed to eradicating drug abuse and the consumption of illicit alcohol.
“And if we find illicit brews being sold in any location and the chief has not reported, that chief will lose his job because he is sleeping. I want to ask these chiefs to get serious,” said Murkomen.

Additionally, the CS called on the public to report anyone involved in the illegal alcohol trade.
He reiterated that chiefs are the government’s eyes at the grassroots level and must take responsibility for ensuring their regions remain free from harmful substances.
According to the CS, salaries given to chiefs are nothing compared to the expectation of their deliverables.
“If you know anyone in your neighborhood who is selling illicit brews, do not keep quiet about it. I will come back here to speak to all the chiefs. The reason why they exist is to be the eyes of the government in local neighborhoods, ” added the CS.

Defense to Kahariri and Haji
The interior CS also defended Chief of Defense Forces Charles Kahariri and NIS Director Noordin Haji from criticism after they warned Kenyans against chanting antigovernment slogans in public functions.
“If you are going to become a country that has order, my friend, forget about this thing you are answering the Chief of Defence Forces and the NIS Director; those two men are speaking from information.
“They are warning your country, they are warning your future. You are making social media arguments here, and politicians are speaking out here and there. My friend, the future of a country needs order,” Murkomen stated.
