The father of cosmetic surgery in Kenya has landed a new role in government, just days after President William Ruto revoked his appointment. Professor Stanley Khainga, whose position as Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council was revoked in a gazette notice dated July 25, 2025, has now been appointed by Education CS Julius Ogamba as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Kaimosi Friends University College.
The appointment was announced in a gazette notice dated Friday, August 8, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints Professor Stanley Khainga to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Kaimosi Friends University College,” read part of the gazette notice.
Professor Khainga Appointed as Chair of Kaimosi Friends University College
Professor Khainga will serve in this role for a period of three years.
The renowned professor has over 30 years of experience in clinical medicine, plastic, and reconstructive surgery. He is a well-respected and world-renowned surgeon.
He holds a Master of Medicine in Surgery from the University of Nairobi and a Certificate of Microvascular Surgery in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Medical University of Southern Africa (MEDUNSA), Pretoria. In addition, he is a W.H.O. fellow in plastic and reconstructive surgery at MEDUNSA.

He is an active member of several medical associations, both locally and internationally.
Prof. Khainga currently serves as the Secretary-General of the Kenya Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He has also been a lecturer at the University of Nairobi’s Medical School for more than 10 years.
Other Appointments Made Education CS
Besides Prof. Khainga’s appointment, Dr. Julius Ogamba made several other appointments effective August 8.
Dr. Musangi Mutua has been appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Garissa University, for a period of three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints Dr. Musangi Mutua to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Garissa University,” read the gazette notice.

Another appointee was Jones Musyoki Kimeu, who was named a member of the Council of Rongo University, replacing Willy Kioko Malile.
CS Ogamba also appointed Habat Sheikh Abdi as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Special Education, for a period of three years.
