Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has announced a public holiday limited to eight regions that are scheduled to hold elections on Monday, August 29.
The areas include Mombasa County, Kakamega County, Kitui Rural Constituency, Kacheliba Constituency, Pokot South Constituency, Rongai Constituency, Kwa Njenga Ward (Embakasi South Constituency) and Nyaki West Ward (Imenti North Constituency).
“In accordance with the Constitution of Kenya (Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) and the Public Holidays Act (Sections 2(4) and 3), Monday, 29th August 2022 has been declared a public holiday in the listed electoral areas,” said Matiang’i.

Moreover, Matiang’i urged employers around the country to allow their employees who are registered voters in the listed electoral areas to vote.
The interior CS issued that statement on Friday, August 26.

Furthermore, the Interior Cabinet Secretary’s statement comes after three petitioners from Mombasa County went to court seeking to compel the Ministry of Interior to declare Monday, August 29 a public holiday.
