As major media houses in Kenya continue to experience tough times due to the rapid changes in the journalism world, Look Up TV has joined in the list of affected companies.
The station on Friday, June 7 announced that it was shutting down its newsroom after six years of service.

Look Up TV journalist Tende Anyula made the announcement during a live news broadcast while bidding goodbye to viewers and thanking them for their support.
According to the reporter, the bulletins aired on Friday are part of their final programs but he did not cite the reason behind the shutdown.

“Every journey that has a start has an end. Look Up TV’s journey which started 6 years ago is coming to an end and today we are officially ending the station’s Kiswahili and English broadcast,” he announced.
Look Up TV Shuts Down
He went on to thank the viewers, noting that it would not have been possible for the station to achieve what it has without their support.

“The six-year journey could not have been possible without you accepting to watch our bulletins and other shows that Look Up TV’s journalists have been bringing to you daily and we thank all your viewers,” he stated.
Following the announcement, the journalist urged all viewers not to be worried if they don’t find the station on air.
“Please note that we have halted our bulletins,” he said.
Also, Look Up TV announced that the shutting down will affect all journalists and other members of staff who were rendered jobless.

The journalist wished all the reporters wishing them the best in their journey as the station shuts down.
“As we officially close Look UP bulletins, I would like to thank all our reporters who have taken the station’s name to the next level,” he said.
The announcement by Look Up comes at a time many media stations in Kenya are experiencing tough times due to the changing landscape in the journalism world.
NMG’s mass layoffs
Earlier on June 7, the Nation Media Group had announced that it will be laying off members of its staff as part of a workforce reduction due to the rapid changes in the journalism world.
NMG in a statement on Friday, June 7, 2024, made the announcement noting that the decision comes as the company navigates changes in its Transformation Agenda.
According to NMG, the company is evolving into a leaner and more agile organization that will drive the efficient delivery of its audiences.
Also, Radio Africa Group back in March 2023 announced the shutdown of its Television station Kiss TV.
The popular TV station was operating as a sister station to the renowned Kiss FM, Classic 105, and Radio Jambo radio stations.
According to an internal memo issued by the company back then, the commercial music television shut down due to financial constraints, affecting at least 30 journalists.
