The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has closed the placement portal for applications from interested candidates seeking to join public universities and colleges across the country.
KUCCPS in a March 5, 2024, statement also gave a way forward for the applicants who have been locked out after the March 4, 2024, deadline elapsed.
“KUCCPS application portal has closed. Another opportunity to apply is coming up, during the first revision of choices. Keep it here for updates,” read part of the statement.
Applicants faced a range of challenges during the application window. Many complained of delays while at some point others complained that the system crashed.
Following the outcry, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu intervened assuring stakeholders that his Ministry had taken note of the challenges facing students in their attempts to place applications within the given timelines.
KUCCPS in a March 1 statement announced that it had fixed all the portal errors that applicants were experiencing.
It is from the statement that KUCCPS further urged all those who were yet to submit their course choices to do so before the deadline which was set on March 4th, 2024.

According to the statement, the issue was resolved after an intervention put in place by KUCCPS and eCitizen officers.
Complaints
After KUCCPS closed the portal, some applicants still complained that they had been locked them out.
A social media user named Samitto reacted to the announcement by KUCCPS claiming that the placement service had closed the portal, yet some payments were yet to be verified.
“You closed yet students made payments, but your portal couldn’t verify the payment for a formal application to be completed. So, they will reapply again? This is disheartening because Kenyans are just losing money with no care from you,” he lamented.
Another user named Richard while attaching a screenshot of his application progress noted that the delay had made him stuck for days while waiting for verification of payment which has not yet been confirmed.
“I’ve been stuck here for days waiting for you guys to verify my payment, but you didn’t, well done!” he reacted.
KUCCPS Stats
The Dr. Agnes Wahome-led agency however stated that despite the technical hitches, the application success rate shot up.

According to KUCCPS, a total number of 144,102 who attained a mean grade of C+ and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2023 had applied by close of business on March 1.
Further, the placement service has announced that based on the application trends of the 2022 KCSE candidates, it targets 173,178 (86%) of the students with C+ above to apply for placement this year.
