The Lavington United Church has cancelled its fundraiser event, where First Lady Rachel Ruto was meant to be the chief guest.
In a notice to members of the public, the church indicated that its leadership had called off the June 30, event.
The move came after pressure piled on the church pastor Reverend Simon Mutahi, for inviting First Lady Rachel Ruto to the event.
Moreover, the invitation card had detailed that the First Lady would be the chief guest, in an event that sought to help complete the construction of a new church.
“The Leadership and Pastoral Team of Lavington United Church wishes to inform members that the Fundraising Event scheduled for 30th June 2024 has been canceled,” a notice from the church read in part.

Kenyans Call out Lavington Church Pastor for Inviting Rachel Ruto
The invitation card for the fundraiser was circulated online enraging Kenyans who were yet to come to terms with the death of protestors, who were shot by police officers.
In the past few days, the youth have come out in large numbers to put the blame on President William Ruto, for over taxing the masses.
Subsequently, angry Kenyans called out the church pastor, Reverend Simon Mutahi for engaging politicians who did not stand with Kenyans during anti Finance Bill 2024 riots.
His contacts were shared online, and various individuals sent him messages as well as called him, warning him against hosting the first lady at the event.
“I see here you have invited Mrs. Rachel Ruto to your church for a fundraiser. First of all, the money is definitely looted from the taxes I pay to this government.
“Secondly, her husband is on a killing spree of young men, women and children around the country. This message is to notify you that we are coming for the fundraiser. God bless you,” one of the messages sent to the pastor read in part.
“Thank you for reaching out. Please note that the first lady will not be attending the fundraiser. You are welcome to fellowship with us. Blessed night,
“Please you can help me post the current position that the first lady will be attending. This was something planned long ago but has since changed,” the pastor responded.
