February 2025 has been a month of profound loss for Kenya, marked by the passing of several prominent figures from various fields.
The country has mourned influential personalities in media, politics, and education, all of whom made significant contributions to their professions and communities.

Among them is veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela. His family, through his daughter-in-law Anne Mbotela, confirmed that the legendary radio presenter passed away on Friday, February 7.
Mbotela is remembered for being forced at gunpoint to announce on the radio that former President Daniel Arap Moi’s government had been overthrown during the failed 1982 coup.

He was also revered for his engaging live commentary during football matches and national events, cementing his status as one of Kenya’s broadcasting legends.
Mbotela’s career began in 1964 when he joined Voice of Kenya (now KBC).

He was laid to rest on Saturday, February 19, at Lang’ata Cemetery.
Another prominent figure who has passed away this month is Baringo Senator William Cheptumo.
Baringo Senator Passes Away
The news of his demise was made public on Sunday, February 16 by the Senate Speaker Amason Kingi with tributes pouring in from across the country.

Cheptumo died while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital. He was elected to the Senate in the 2022 General Election, representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Before becoming a senator, he served as the Member of Parliament for Baringo North from 2008 to 2022. He passed away at the age of 57.
Malava MP Moses Injendi Dies
Also, among those who have died this month is Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi, who passed away on February 17, 2025, at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
He had been hospitalized for several weeks and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before succumbing to his illness.

Injendi served as the Malava MP for three consecutive terms, from 2013 until his passing in 2025.
His death came just a day after his elder brother, Samuel Injendi, passed away on February 16, 2025.
KEPSHA Chairman Dies
Another prominent personality who has passed on this month is Johnson Nzioka, the National Chairman of the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA).
Nzioka tragically lost his life in a road accident on February 16, 2025. The accident occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Athi River. Before his passing, Nzioka was the headteacher of Donholm Primary School in Nairobi.
