National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s son is among those who have received the latest state appointments. In a gazette notice dated Saturday, August 9, 2025, Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir reappointed Alvin Wetangula as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation for three years, effective from August 8, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (1) (f) of the Kenya Railways Corporation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport reappoints Alvin Habwe to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation for a period of three (3) years, effective from August 8, 2025,” stated part of the gazette notice.
Alvin Wetangula was initially appointed to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation in 2024, with his appointment announced in a gazette notice dated February 23, 2024.
He is a civil engineer by profession, with a career spanning over twelve (12) years, during which he has held key roles in various organizations.

His experience includes managing a diverse portfolio of projects involving road works, building projects, street lighting, and water works.
Alvin also works as a consultant in the civil engineering industry, where he provides insights into road design and construction, project costing, budget formulation, and structural design. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi.
In addition to the Transport Cabinet Secretary’s appointment, several other Cabinet Secretaries also made state appointments. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Dr. Musangi as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Garissa University for three years, effective August 8, 2025.

He also appointed Professor Stanley Khainga as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of Kaimosi Friends University College for the same duration.
Additionally, he reappointed Habat Sheikh Abdi as the non-executive Chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Special Education for three years.
Other State Appointments
Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Murithi reappointed several individuals to the Board of Directors of the Coast Water Works Development Agency, including Hafswa Abdalla Dele, Judith Wabosha Mwamburi, and Mohamed Masoud Mwahima.

Furthermore, President William Ruto appointed Charles Kamau Karondo as the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Communications Authority for three years, effective August 8, 2025, thereby revoking the previous appointment of Mary Wambui Mungai.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint— Charles Kamau Karondo to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Communications Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 8th August, 2025. The appointment of Mary Wambui Mungai is revoked,” read the gazette notice.
