The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, has announced the death of Nominated Member of Parliament Joseph Denar Hamisi.
In a statement on December 6, Wetangula announced that the Late Joseph Denar died on Saturday, December 6, at about 7:00 a.m..“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP,” Wetang’ula said.
Wetang’ula described Hamisi’s death as a significant loss not only to the house but also to the nation.
“He will be fondly remembered for humility and steadfast commitment to service.”
Speaker Moses Wetangula described the late MP as a true leader.
“In Parliament, he served diligently on the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities. Colleagues praised his dedication to fostering unity and promoting cultural development,” Wetanhula eulogized him.
Deputy Leader of the Majority Party in the National Assembly, Owen Baya, has been appointed to lead a team coordinating a befitting send-off for the late MP.

“As we come to terms with the passing on of our colleague, I have appointed Members to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Wetang’ula said.
Distinguished Career in Public Service
Joseph Hamisi, 56, was born in 1969 in Kinango and attended the Mombasa Baptist High School, where he completed his secondary education in 1989.
He later pursued higher education at United States International University (USIU), earning a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management in 2000 and a Master of Science in International Business Administration in 2002.
He also obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006.
Before joining Parliament, Hamisi held several key positions in both the private and public sectors.

His public service record includes roles as Director of the Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007–2008), and Director at Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012).
He also served as Director of Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012) and was a council member at the University of Nairobi and Moi University between 2013 and 2022.
Parliamentary Role and Contributions
Hamisi was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) following the 2022 General Election.
As a member of the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture, Hamisi advocated for increased investment in sports infrastructure and creative industries, recognizing their potential to empower youth and promote national identity.
On the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities, he worked to advance policies that reduce ethnic divisions and foster equal access to opportunities for all Kenyans.
