Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has warned political leaders opposed to the ongoing bipartisan talks.
In a Statement on Thursday, September 21, Prof Nyong’o said Kisumu County is aware of some politicians who are against the talks and want the country to go back into chaos.
“We are aware that some leaders across the country would like the dialogue to collapse so that the country relapses back into political and economic chaos and turmoil,” read the statement.
Furthermore, the governor advised that the political class to avoid such paths that will subject Kenyans to pain and misery.
“We would like to warn such leaders who have been blowing hot and cold about the talks that Kenyans will judge them harshly should the bipartisan dialogue collapse,” stated Nyong’o.
In addition, Prof Nyong’o said the county supports the dialogue since it experienced the negative impacts of the anti-government demonstrations.
“We support the dialogue and would like it to continue to a successful conclusion as per the wishes of our Party Leader Raila Amollo Odinga,” said Nyong’o.
Nyong’o Appeal
Additionally, the governor appealed to both the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio One Kenya Coalition to use the bipartisan talks to provide solutions to the matters that led to demonstrations.
“We appeal to the negotiators and our leaders to give the talks a chance to help resolve issues that resulted into the demonstrations,” stated Nyong’’o.
Further, Prof Nyong’o urged the leaders to lower their ego and speed up the dialogue process for the benefit of the country.
“Kisumu County reminds leaders from both sides that time is running out and that the faster we conclude these talks the better for the country. Let us tone down on hardliner attitudes and embrace dialogue,” said the statement.

Also, Prof Nyong’o emphasized the importance of unity in providing solutions to the problems facing the country.
“It is only the bipartisan talks that will get the country out of the current muddle and allow it to forge ahead with the business of development and Nation building,” he said.
He urged the two camps not to let their selfishness replace the goal Kenya has believed in for many years.

Dialogue Challenges
Prof Nyong’o acknowledged that the bipartisan talks have faced some challenges but urged the team to remain focused on the main content of the dialogue.
“We have come a long way as a country from the dark moments of our history and must as a people continue to struggle unwaveringly against all forces of obscurantism,” read the statement.
Moreover, the governor said that no Kenyan citizen must endure subhuman living conditions.
“Every Kenyan must have adequate food, descent shelter and clothing, adequate health, security, and gainful employment. It is your right to enjoy minimum standards of human existence,” said Nyong’o.
Also, Nyong’o stated that the satisfaction of these basic needs is a human right as per with the right to life.
