A senior police officer, who is also an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from Trans Nzoia County, accidentally shot a bar attendant at Kapcherany Trading Centre, Bomet
The OCS fired the shot on the night of Tuesday, September 26 while allegedly demonstrating how a firearm works inside a bar.
According to reports, the OCS was allegedly demonstrating how his weapon operates to a drinking companion when the firearm suddenly discharged and lodged a bullet in the bar attendant.
The firearm discharged, striking the attendant in the stomach in a near-fatal shooting.

The victim was quickly rushed to Litein Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a severe gunshot wound.
Bomet County Deputy Police Commandant Jamleck Ngaruiya stated that officers from Kapletundo Police Station responded to the incident, securing the area and collecting statements from the pub owner and witnesses.
Police report as reported by Citizen Digital indicated that the officer was disarmed and taken into custody for interrogation.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Police Shoot Himself while Issuing Gun to Colleague
The incident comes after a senior police officer in July this year died after a pistol, he was handling allegedly discharged a bullet that killed him at the Kegonga police station, Kuria, Migori County.
Superintendent James Mugo Kabachia who was the Kuria East Sub County Police Commander succumbed to bleeding following an injury he sustained on July 1 in the evening.

The incident occurred at around 4 PM as Mugo was receiving a pistol for night operations. According to the police, Mugo was conducting safety checks on the weapon after receiving it from the station armoury when the firearm discharged, fatally injuring him.

The officer in charge of the armoury reported that she had issued Mugo with a Beretta pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
“Safety checks are a standard procedure for weapon holders to ensure the firearm is secure, but how these checks are performed can sometimes lead to accidents, officials said.
“During the checks, the pistol discharged a bullet, which struck Mugo in the right thigh, exited through his right buttock, and severed a critical vein, leading to severe blood loss.”
Mugo was rushed to Kegonga Sub County Hospital and later referred to Migori County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His colleagues said he bled excessively which is believed to have caused the death.
