The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a 14-day notice directing owners and operators of roadside developments along the James Gichuru Road Junction to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Highway to remove temporary structures, advertisement signs, billboards, and tree bursary beds.
In a notice dated January 13, KeNHA said the directive is aimed at facilitating capacity enhancement, landscaping and beautification works along the corridor.
“This is to notify all roadside developments owners/operators (billboards, direction and advertisement signs, nursery beds and temporary structures) within James Gichuru Road Junction to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (A8/B10) Highway of the commencement of capacity enhancement landscaping and beautification works between this section,” read part of the notice.
The authority warned that any installations not removed within the stipulated period will be cleared without further reference to the owners or operators as project implementation begins.
KeNHA Begins Beautification Process Along JKIA
On December 12, during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations, President William Ruto announced a comprehensive rehabilitation and beautification project for the Mombasa Road-Uhuru Highway corridor covering the busy stretch between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and ABC Place in Westlands.
The project was set to begin in December as part of a broader government initiative to modernise Nairobi’s transport network.
Upon completion, the works are expected to improve the area’s aesthetic appeal, promote environmental sustainability, and upgrade infrastructure and safety standards across the corridor.

Nairobi Expressway Beautification
The project follows the completion of the Nairobi Expressway, enhancing both the infrastructure and the aesthetic appeal of the city’s key transport corridor.
One of the most striking features is the greenery introduced on the concrete pillars supporting the elevated road, a development that has drawn admiration from many road users.
The process involved constructing a supporting framework with pockets attached to the pillars, into which plants contained in porous bags were carefully placed.
To keep the greenery thriving, a dedicated landscaping team watered the plants by hand every 2 days, ensuring the pillars remained vibrant and visually appealing.
