Days after allegations emerged linking Social Health Authority (SHA) chairperson Abdi Mohammed to Ladnan Hospital Limited — a facility that allegedly received Ksh66 million in SHA payments — the true ownership of the hospital has come to light.
Pangani-based Ladnan Hospital confirmed that Abdi Mohammed once held shares in the facility but clarified that he sold them in 2023, long before the implementation of SHA.
This comes after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, in an attempt to clear the air over the claims of fraudulent claims from the hospital, denied allegations of conflict of interest surrounding Mohammed’s links with the facility vis-à-vis his lead role at SHA.
“SHA chairman Abdi Mohamed used to own Ladnan Hospital; there’s no conflict of interest,” Duale said.
Responding to the allegations and reports, Metro Group PLC (TMG) issued a statement to address recent reports regarding the ownership of the hospital.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 26, the group said the hospital is a wholly owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited, which in turn is wholly owned by TMG.
TMG is a public unlisted company with more than 500 shareholders.
“Dr. Abdi Mohamed, one of the original founders of Ladnan Hospital in Pangani, sold his entire stake in Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited in July 2023,” the statement read in part.
The group further clarified that he has had no role in the ownership, management, or operations of the hospital since that time, and is not a shareholder, director, or employee of Ladnan Hospital Limited or TMG.
According to TMG, this information is a matter of public record and can be independently verified through official CR12 filings with the Registrar of Companies, which list TMG as the sole shareholder of Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Limited.
The governance of Ladnan Hospital Limited, the group added, falls under the full authority of Metro Group PLC’s board, ensuring all operations adhere to the highest standards of integrity and remain independent of external influence.

Ladnan Hospital Location and Services
Over the years, TMG PLC’s ownership has grown to include both local and international shareholders, currently standing at 516 members.
TMG began as Metropolitan Health Services Limited (MHS) before restructuring to separate land and building ownership from hospital operations. This restructuring allowed TMG to remain the landlord while establishing Metropolitan Hospital Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, to run hospital services.
In 2023, TMG acquired Ladnan Hospital, a modern healthcare facility in Pangani, Nairobi, with a 50-bed capacity.

Ladnan Hospital is located in Pangani, Ole Thruba Road, off Juja Road, Nairobi, behind Leadway Petrol Station and opposite Pangani Girls School.
