Police officers rescued an infant from a pit latrine in Kiango Sub-Location in Kisii County.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that the infant boy was recovered from the latrine on Tuesday, December 5.

Further, NPS explained that a total of three infants have now been rescued from similar tragedies in Kisii County.
“For a third time this year, Police in Kisii with the help of members of public have rescued 3 newborn infants from pit latrines after they were dumped by unknown persons, the latest being an infant boy that was retrieved on 16/05/12/2023 at Kiango Sub-location,” read the statement.

Additionally, NPS stated that the baby was undergoing treatment at Magena Level 3 Hospital in stable condition.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to serve and to protect; and act in the best interest of the child,” added the statement.

Kisii September & April Incident
In September, police in Kisii rescued a newborn baby girl who was found dumped in a pit latrine.
Besides, the operation involved officers from Nyanchwa Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Kisii County Fire Brigade, who rescued the infant, estimated to be a few days old.

The baby was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and police launched investigations to locate the mother.
Prior to this, another newborn baby girl was found dumped inside a pit latrine within Rioma Catholic Church compound in Marani, Kisii county on April 18.
In a statement, NPS said the baby estimated to be four days old was retrieved from the latrine by police officers from Rioma Police Station.

“Police at Rioma Police Station responded to report made by a member of public, that there was a voice of an infant emanating from a pit latrine, within Rioma Catholic Church compound.
“OCS and Officers from the station responded swiftly to the scene, approximately 1.4km from the station, demolished the pit latrine and rescued a female infant estimated to be four days old,” the read the statement.
Police took the baby to Marani Level 4 Hospital and handed her over to the Sub- County Chief Nursing Officer in sound health.
