Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu has called on all political parties to be patient and wait for the court’s verdict concerning state funding in May.
As such political parties will have to wait much longer before receiving the last batch of this financial year’s funding from the government.
Moreover, Nderitu reported that the political parties got 737.5 million Shillings for the 2023/22 financial year.
According to the law, 95 percent of the state funding will be distributed proportionally by reference to the total number of votes secured by each political party in the previous General Election whereas 5 percent will cover administrative expenses.
Nonetheless, the ORPP said they will be able to dispense 146.8 million Shillings after the court ruling in May. This is because the National Treasury reduced the initial budget from 1.47 billion Shillings to 884.3 million Shillings in the recently ratified supplementary budget.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have the larger share of the funds while Amani National Congress and Ford-Kenya will get the least share.
