Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Adhiambo Odinga, who is also Raila Odinga’s sister, has expressed disappointment over Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua‘s decision to hold a press conference before his impeachment hearing in parliament.
Delivering her submissions on Rigathi’s ouster at the national assembly, Ruth explained that she was on the deputy president’s side but his comments during the interview changed her mind.
“I was on your side before, but you have hanged yourself using your own rope. When the deputy president is talking about Kenya being a company, What company are you talking about and shareholders? Whoever advised you to go on TV yesterday did you a big disservice and for that I support the motion. For that matter I support the motion to impeach,” she stated.
She continued to state that she changed her mind following the revelations Gachagua shared during the press briefing on October 7,2024 at his Karen residence.
“I was not one of the people who wanted to impeach the deputy president. If felt he deputy president was not the main problem in Kenya, that we have other big issues but having heard how the deputy president spoke last night, am convinced that he must go and go as soon as possible,” she added.

Ruth Odinga Goes Back in Time
Ruth went on to add that Gachagua should emulate the late Jaramogi Oginga’s example and resign from his position if he is not seeing eye to eye with President William Ruto.
“Jaramogi Oginga Odinga fought for independence. He became the first vice president of Kenya. Two years down the line like the two years we have had with the deputy president, Jaramogi decided that his ideologies differed from the president’s and decided to step down for the greater good of the republic of Kenya,” she explained.

The woman representative also called on the deputy president to consider the national cohesion of the country instead of dragging it backwards politically.
“Kenya is larger than you. It is a big country we need to protect it. Please take the honorable route and step down from this position. Don’t take Kenya to the dark abyss you want to take us through,” she remarked.
Ruth Speaks on Divisive Gachagua Politics
Additionally, she faulted Gachagua’s comments on wealth and shareholding sentiments he made during his press conference, adding that politicians are not elected to amass wealth.

” We are not here for our personal wealth. If the deputy president is morning because his father is turning in his grave because of wealth, I wonder what people who fought for multiparty and the democracy we are enjoying are feeling,” she commented.
This comes even as the country continues to follow the impeachment process of the deputy president with Kenyans faulting politicians for misaligned priorities.
