Residents of Mradi area in Embakasi issued an alert over another gas leak in the area on Monday, February 5.
The Residents indicated that they had noticed that there was an ongoing leakage from the illegal plant where an explosion occurred.
Further, they expressed their fear for their lives adding that the leak had been going on since Sunday, February 4, but no authority had come to the scene to address the matter.
Some of the residents were forced to evacuate their homes because of the impending danger barely a week after the deadly explosion disrupted their lives.
“What is going on? There is another leak now everyone is running away. They are not moving the remaining gases at the plant, now there is a leak after every minute,” a resident lamented as she shared a video of the restless residents in the area.

Residents Appeal to NEMA and Police
Calling on the authorities to address the concern, a user on X named Maliks, shared another video of school-going children being guided out of the area.
In the video, the children ran by the side of the road as two other individuals guided oncoming traffic away from the area.
The residents have called on the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to address the matter as soon as possible.
Additionally, parents of Junior School in Embakasi’s Fedha area were asked to pick up their children from school as a precaution due to the fear of another gas leak.

Govt Issues Update on Embakasi Explosion
Earlier on the Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced that three more people had succumbed to the Embakasi Gas explosion and fire that occurred on February 1, night, bringing the death toll to six.
Also, he stated that seven more individuals were in critical condition at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Mwaura asked those who lost their documents and certificates in the fire to register at the Embakasi Social Hal to allow the government to facilitate the replacement and issuance of other certifications through the National Registration Bureau (NRB) and other bodies like KNEC.
The Mradi fire occurred after a lorry carrying gas cylinders exploded at around 11:30 pm spreading to the nearby homes and factories.
