Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he was meeting with Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at the instructions of President William Ruto.
In a statement on Monday, November 6, Gachagua noted that he invited the leaders to his Karen residence to listen to their grievances.
Additionally, he stated that his main objective was to try and end wrangles between the MCAs and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
The deputy president further indicated that he would also meet members of parliament and Governor Wamatangi after his meeting with the MCAs.
“The National Government, led by the President William Ruto, is seized of the friction between the Governor of Kiambu County Kimani Wamatangi and the leadership of the devolved unit, led by the MCAs.
“This morning, I am hosting the MCAs of the County at the official Residence in Karen to listen to their concerns ahead of an engagement with their Members of Parliament and later, the Governor, for an amicable solution,” noted Gachagua.

At the same time, the DP explained the importance of the meeting stating that it was crucial to uphold the constitution which informed devolution through county leadership.
Furthermore, Gachagua stated that the mechanisms of accountability put in place for leaders through MCAs were important and therefore there was need to listen to the leaders.
“The advent of Devolution under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, among other issues, was designed to deliver development to the grassroots through Counties.
With allocation of resources, it also created accountability mechanisms to the Executive through the Members of County Assemblies,” he stated.
“Seamless synergy of working together between the Executive and the Legislative arm of the County Government is crucial in achieving the main goal of devolution- igniting and sustaining development,” added the DP.

Woes Against Governor Wamatangi
Notably, the meeting came at a time when Kiambu MCAs threatened to impeach Wamatangi over failure to deliver his promises.
On August 29, Kiambu MCAs, held a press conference at the County Assembly to address the matter accusing the first-time governor of dictatorship, poor leadership, and an inability to oversee the county development.
At the same time, they accused the governor of being a lone ranger, unable to work with other leaders.
The MCAs claimed Wamatangi did not involve other important people in decision-making on County matters.
