President William Ruto has announced that he will be going after developers in Nairobi with tall buildings that surpass the stipulated height are provided for in law.
Speaking during the Kenya Air Force 60th Anniversary celebrations at Moi Airbase, the Head of state stated that he will make sure that the contractors abide by the law in collaboration with the county government of Nairobi.
Further, he explained that the Highrise buildings were interfering with the activities of the Kenya Air Force and tampering with the prime location of the Moi Airbase.
“Let me commit that in discussions with the county government of Nairobi we will ensure that this facility does not lose its premier position and all buildings beyond the heights that are provided for in law,
“We will work with the city county to ensure that all developers keep to the standards that we have agreed with the Kenya Air Force and Kenya Defence Forces,” said Ruto.

Sakaja Lifting Floor-Limit for High-Rise Buildings
Ruto’s sentiments defy sentiments made by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja in March 2023, removed the floor limit and allowing landlords to build houses up to 25 floors upwards.
Previously, the floor limit within the residential apartments was four floors with developers restricted against exceeding the limit.
Sakaja argued that the height limit was imposed in Nairobi in residential areas close to the airports to aid in the evacuation of the President during emergencies.
However, the growth of the population necessitated the revision of the restrictions- according to the Governor.
“There was a restriction of houses especially close to the Eastleigh Airbase. These restrictions were in place to aid the evacuation of the President during an emergency. However I requested the President to remove the limit, which he agreed to,
“Nairobi is 696 square Kilometers, in 2050 the population will be 10.5 million people and since we can’t expand the city, the only way to go is up,” stated Sakaja.
