A rowdy crowd infuriated President William Ruto while addressing a rally during a groundbreaking ceremony at Kangeta Market, in Meru County on January 26.Â
Ruto was giving room to Meru leaders to speak to the crowd and address some of their concerns. It was smooth sailing until Ruto asked Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza to give her speech.
Hell broke loose immediately the governor’s name was mentioned with the youth at the event chanting anti-Kawira slogans.Â
However, Ruto insisted that Mwangaza is given the microphone to speak despite the ensuring drama.
In her speech, Mwangaza noted that the youths were being manipulated by some leaders in the county because they did not have jobs.
“Give these youths good jobs so that they stop making noise,” Mwangaza stated before she was disrupted by the president who came in strongly to defend her.

The youths broke into song, dance and chants which grew louder and more chaotic as the president attempted to keep them calm and get them to pay attention.
“We have heard what you have said. This politics of chaos must end. I want to give you jobs so that you stop coming to meetings to make noise,” stated Ruto.

When the head of state realized that the hostile crowd was only becoming more and more aggressive, he angrily stated that he would not tolerate noisemakers at his events.
“We have come here to plan the development of Meru, I do not want to see noisemakers in the president’s meetings. This is lack of respect and I want every leader to be respected,” he added.

President on Rowdy ODM Youths
Further, he told the people of Meru that there will come a time for them to elect their preferred leaders into power, noting that the time was yet to come, and they must therefore respect their leaders.
According to Ruto, that kind of rowdy behavior was associated with the Azimio coalition and not the Kenya Kwanza.Â
“There will come a time for you to make a decision. If someone has been working, you will allow them another chance to lead, if not you will chase them out of power. However, right now there is no opportunity for elections.
“This rowdy behavior is associated with members of the Azimio coalition and the ODM party. We do not want ODM matters in a UDA function.
This should be the last time I see this kind of behavior in a Kenya Kwanza function. We do not want this kind of nonsense,” he stated.
