President William Ruto has broken his silence since the impeachment of ousted Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
While speaking during his tour in Nkuene, Imenti South, Meru County, on Wednesday, April 2, Ruto said that the county faced a lot of problems during Mwangaza’s tenure.

He, however, mentioned that the court made a great decision in upholding the Senate’s decision to send her home.
“Here in Meru, we have had many issues, but by the grace of God, the courts have sorted things out, and now we have a new governor,” Ruto said.

“The people of Meru should stand together; now that you have a new governor, support him, collaborate, and work together—only then will Meru move forward.”

The Head of State also mentioned that he has nothing personal with women and went on to advise the governor to choose a woman as his deputy governor.

“I told the governor that we have no issues with women. We love our women so much. Therefore, I advised him that since he has become governor, he should also choose a woman as his deputy governor.”
This comes after Mwangaza, a long-time ally of President Ruto, claimed that the only finished project the head of state can commission was “her removal and the new governor in Meru.”
Mwangaza Accuses Ruto for Supporting Her Impeachment
In a Facebook post, Mwangaza criticized Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and other leaders, accusing them of focusing on her impeachment ever since she was elected in 2022.
“I precisely point it out that the 11 members of parliament, the Senator, current and former cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and 47 MCAs, in a combined effort of two and half years, have only been able to complete one single project -‘Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeachment project’,” Mwangaza told the Nation.
“It is the only project the aforementioned leaders can proudly invite the President to launch and commission.”
At the same time, she claimed that leaders had made several visits to State House and the deputy president’s residence to beg for her removal.
“They have been to State House so many times but they could not beg for development projects. Some of them could prostrate themselves before the Head of State, urging him to endorse my impeachment. As a result, they have no development to show in their constituencies,” the former governor added.
“I challenge them to show their work. And they should not ride on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s projects. Despite having been under political turmoil for two years, my work is visible across the county.”
