Several pupils were injured after a bus belonging to Nova Pioneer School overturned along Mombasa Road.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, March 25, in the Sabaki area within Athi River, Machakos County.
The bus had schoolchildren on board. Athi River South Subcounty Police Commander Philis Muthoni stated that all the children were safe, and no fatalities were reported.
“The children were rushed to various hospitals within Athi River. There were no fatalities,” Muthoni told The Star.

Muthoni said it was a single-vehicle road accident. The incident occurred while the bus was heading in the direction of Mombasa.
Images and videos seen by The Kenya Times showed the bus lying on its side across the road, with several people gathered around it.
The footage also showed how the school bus was extensively damaged, with broken side mirrors, windows, and a shattered windscreen.
The minor accident caused a traffic snurl up on the highway.
At the time of publishing, the cause of the accident had yet to be established.
The bus was towed to the Athi River police station awaiting inspection and Police unravel the cause of the accident.

Past Accidents Involving School Buses
The incident involving a school bus follows a similar one in November last year, when a school bus carrying children was involved in a road accident near Kikima Market, Mbooni Subcounty, Makueni.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, November 23, stating that the schoolchildren had been trapped after the bus overturned.
“Children trapped in the overturned bus are being rescued by response teams led by the county government,” the statement read in part.

Earlier, the same day at least 10 primary school pupils were injured in an accident on the Southern Bypass near the Ole Sereni Hotel, off Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
Witnesses reported that the accident occurred when a passenger bus, belonging to County Link, lost control, overturned, and rolled.
Preliminary reports suggest that the bus was either transporting students to school or returning from a special trip at the time of the crash.
