Senators and Members of Parliament (MPs) have dominated the list of nominees proposed for the conferment of National Honours in 2023.
In a notice by the Parliament of Kenya, thirteen Senators and thirty-one MPs were nominated for the different awards.

“It is notified to the general public that, pursuant to Section 8 (2) of the National Honors Act, 2013 the Parliamentary Honors Advisory Committee has proposed the persons listed hereunder for conferment of the corresponding national honors and awards,” read the advert in parts.
To begin with, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been nominated for the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) award.

Sifuna is the Deputy Senate Minority Whip and a member of the Senate’s Committees on Energy, Roads Transportation and Housing and County Public Accounts.
Further, MP Homabay Town and fifth Chairperson of Committees in the National Assembly Speaker’s Panel George Opondo Kaluma was listed for the CBS honours.

Senators Nominated for Honours
Parliament nominated Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot to receive the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).
Also nominated for the EGH award is Kilifi Senator Justice Stewart Madzayo.
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Keroche hass been listed to receive the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH).
Furthermore, Homabay Senator and Chairperson of the Select Committee on Public Accounts Moses Kajwang’ has equally been picked to receive the CBS medal.
Others proposed to receive the CBS award are Mombasa Senator Faki Mohammed Mwinyihaji, Julius Murgor Recha of West Pokot and Sheikh Mohammed Abass of Wajir.

Senator Faki is a member of the Senate Business Committee, Standing Committees on Labor and Social Welfare, Trade, Industrialization and Tourism and the Committee on Delegated Legislation.
On the other hand, Murgor is the Chairperson of the Senate Select Committee on Delegated Legislation and member of the Committees on Labor and Social Welfare and National Security Defense and Foreign Relations.
Besides, Sheikh Abass Chairs the Senate Devolution Committee and is a member of the Procedure and Rules Committee.
Samburu Senator Dr. Lelegwe Ltumbesi and his Garissa counterpart Abdul Mohammed Haji also appeared on the list.
Lelegwe is Senate’s Deputy Majority Whip while Haji is a member of the Speaker’s Panel.

PSC & MPs Nominated
Additionally, Parliament proposed nominated Senator Joyce Korir who doubles as the Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Other nominated members of the PSC are Senator Okong’o Mogeni and John Kinyua of Nyamira and Laikipia respectively.
Apart from sitting at the PSC, Mogeni is a member of the Senate Committees on Health, Labor and Social Welfare.
Kinyua is equally a member of the Senate Select Committees on Education, and Roads Transportation and Housing.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah is among the MPs nominated to receive the national awards.
Ichung’wah has been nominated to receive the EGH along with Ugunja MP and Leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi.
According to the Joint Secretaries, Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee, the views of objections may be forwarded through email: honours@parliament.go.ke by Tuesday, November 14.
Further, the Committe stated that it shall not accept hand delivered documents.
