Ruto vs The Standard
The Standard Group is Kenya’s oldest media company and is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). It is owned by the family of Kenya’s second President, the late Daniel Arap Moi.
In recent years, it has grappled with financial woes, leading to mass employee retrenchment and delayed salaries.
As an independent media company, it has boldly criticized the leadership of President William Ruto, questioning his performance and calling him out over a litany of unmet promises.
However, in a bare-knuckle attack, Ruto has not been kind to Gideon Moi, the heir apparent of the powerful family.
“Gideon Moi, your Standard Media’s 5 days a week extortionist propaganda headlines on me & my administration’s transformative track record will get you nothing & nowhere. Blackmail to yield to your greed? Never. Kenya belongs to all Kenyans, not you alone. Try 8 days a week. Do your worst,” said angry Ruto.
