Survivors of the accident that occurred on Saturday, June 29, evening along the Narok-Bomet highway have revealed the last moments before the deadly incident.
Speaking while on a hospital bed at Longisa, Fred Kinyando, who is among the seven survivors stated that the driver struggled to control the vehicle after the tire burst, ultimately causing the car to overturn.
He also noted that the matatu was overloaded as it carried more than 14 passengers as required.
Kinyando, who was traveling from Nairobi to Mulot, noted that the conductor of the matatu continued board more passengers, despite passing several police roadblocks therefore disregarding road safety regulations.
“The passengers were over 14 in number in a vehicle meant for 14, passengers’ making the driver to loss control of the car, and then got lost off the road before crashing,” narrated Fred.

Survivors Narrate Last Moments
Further, Fred Kinyando, emphasized the importance of road safety, urging drivers to remain cautious and avoid overloading their vehicles beyond their capacity.
Another survivor, Nicholas Rono, who is currently recovering at Narok referral hospital, said he remembers the journey from Narok then allover sudden the vehicle rolled.

Subsequently, emotions run high at Longisa hospital morgue as the families of the eleven who died were confronted with the heartbreaking task of identifying their loved ones, while two others were lying at Narok Referral hospital morgue.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare, while confirming the accident on Saturday, evening said those who got injured had been rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital for medical care.
The driver of the car and eight other adults (six men and two women) died at the site of the crash.
In addition, a child passed away at the hospital while receiving treatment.

Narok-Bomet Road Accident
The accident which happened in the evening hours of Saturday, June 29 at the Narok-Bomet highway occurred after a 14-seater matatu belonging to the Narok Safaris full of passengers had a tyre burst.
According to the reports the matatu was travelling from Narok to Bomet.
Narok County Traffic Department reported that the tire burst made the driver lose control of the vehicle which rolled off the road killing nine people on the spot.
