The Kenyan music industry has witnessed new talents and creativity alongside traditional beats in 2024

Kenyan artists have pushed boundaries with hits this ending year making waves both locally and globally.

Some of the top hits have become trends on social media with dance challenges on TikTok.

Popular individuals took part in some of these challenges just to break from the boredom of day-to-day life.

Here are The Kenya Times top ten Kenyan hits of the year

Top 4 Kenyan Music Hits

1. Cham Thum (Atoti) by Watendawili- The song was released in 2023 as part of the album ‘Double Treble’. The song was written by Ywaya Eugine Simon, Edgar Israel Onyach and Coster Ojwang.

It so far has 4.7 million views on YouTube.

2. Set it – The song by Dyana Cods ft Ajay from Buruklyn went viral with its dance challenge taking rounds on Tiktok.

The song gained traction on TikTok and charted at number 2 on the Top 100 Apple Music charts in Kenya and number 1 on Boomplay weeks after its release.

3. Miel Matin – The song features gospel artist Jabidii with his mother ‘Mama Jabidii’.

The song was released in July 2023 and has so far garnered 1.1 million views on YouTube.

4. Anguka Nayo– The hit by Wadagliz became a hit becoming the centre hit of the Gen Z protest. Anguka nayo, is a Kiswahili phrase loosely translating to ‘drop with it’. This was in line with the demands of Gen Z.

The song so far has 8.9 million views on YouTube.

Bien, Gody Tennor & Lil Maina Featured

5.Nakam Saa Hii – The song by Lil Maina and Sosatheprodigy was released in March 2024.

It has 4.4 million views on YouTube.

6. Extra Pressure– Bien and Bensoul teamed up to produce the song under the album ‘The Party and The Party Album’.

The song received a lot of praise from the fans with 4.3 million views on Bensoul’s YouTube channel.

7. Mukuchu– The song was released on January 5, 202 by Gody Tennor featuring Spoiler, Soundkraft and RanzScooby.

It has 4.1 million views on YouTube.

8. Maintain (Ivo Ivo)– Maintain featuring Ssaru and Trio Mio is a feel-good track that explores the fun life of Nairobi.

The song released in September 2024 is one of the hits that had official dance challenges on social media platforms.

Ni Sawa & Statue

9. Ni Sawa by Vijana Barubaru– “Ni Sawa” is Swahili for “It’s Okay.” The song tells the story of an aggrieved ex-lover who is offended not by being left but by the person they were left for. It is a story of denial laced with humour.

10. Statue – The collaboration between Furthermore, Mari0o, Sean MNG, and Ssaru is one of the top hits of the year.

It so far has 3.2 million views on Marioo’s YouTube.
