Heavy traffic has been reported along Waiyaki Way following the closure of the overpass at the ABC Place–Red Hill Road Junction.
According to reports on September 9, the closure has disrupted traffic along the busy road, with motorists experiencing delays as vehicles are diverted to alternative routes.
“Heavy traffic has been reported along Waiyaki Way following the closure of the overpass at ABC Place–Red Hill Road Junction,” reported Dira TV.
The Waiyaki Way–Red Hill Link Road is also experiencing major congestion, adding to delays for motorists using the corridor.

The disruption comes as motorists continue to navigate ongoing road works and traffic management measures along sections of Waiyaki Way. KeNHA has previously announced temporary closures on parts of the highway to facilitate infrastructure works.
Waiyaki Way Traffic Alert: ABC Place Overpass Closed for 12 Days
In a statement on Monday, September 7, Moja Expressway announced the temporary closure of the elevated overpass deck after the Nairobi Westlands Exit on the Nairobi Expressway.
The closure will run from 8 pm on Tuesday, September 8, to 5 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
“Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway are informed of maintenance and construction works along the elevated overpass deck after the Nairobi Westlands Exit from 8 pm, September 8 2026 to 5 pm, September 20 2026,” Moja Expressway stated.
The affected section normally directs motorists exiting at Westlands towards ABC Place and Westlands.

During the closure, motorists exiting at Westlands will be directed to the lower A8 (Waiyaki Way) instead of using the elevated link.
The diversion is expected to increase traffic volumes around the ABC Place and Westlands sections of Waiyaki Way.
Motorists using the affected route have been advised to follow traffic signs and directions from traffic marshals.
Alternative Routes For Motorists
- Use lower A8 (Waiyaki Way)
Motorists heading to Westlands, ABC Place or Mpaka Road can exit at Westlands and use the lower A8 road instead of the closed overpass.
Drivers should expect slower movement around the ABC Place junction and follow directions from traffic marshals.

- Avoid the Westlands exit
Motorists who do not need to access Westlands can avoid the affected exit and use alternative routes before reconnecting with Waiyaki Way.
Drivers travelling towards CBD can use Waiyaki Way at grade to access the Expressway rather than approaching the closed elevated link near ABC Place.
- Use parallel surface roads
Motorists making local trips around Westlands and ABC Place can consider Mpaka Road, Chiromo Road and Waiyaki Way to bypass sections affected by congestion.
Drivers from Parklands and Highridge can also use connecting roads towards Westlands and ABC Place, depending on their destination and prevailing traffic conditions.
