Jürgen Nauditt, a member of the North Atlantic Fella Organization (NAFO) and Managing Director, has called out President Donald Trump’s post regarding ships sent to Greenland.
Nauditt responded to the post made by Trump on working with the Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, on sending a hospital boat to Greenland.
The hospital boat was to provide healthcare services to the many people who were sick and had not gotten medical attention.
“Trump posts that the US is sending a “great hospital boat” to Greenland – “It’s on the way!!! He justifies this by saying it’s to provide care for “many sick people who aren’t being cared for there.” This is, of course, another lie,” Nauditt stated.
Nauditt claims that Trump’s post was false since the USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort, the only two US Navy hospital ships of this size, were both in dry dock at the time of the announcement.
He stated that spontaneous deployment is highly unlikely to occur under any circumstances.
Nauditt made a sarcastic comment that the Trump ship deployment was because he ran out of medicine again.
According to Nauditt, the deployment of ships to Greenland is a political theater with an Arctic backdrop.
On February 21, 2026, Danish forces evacuated an ill US submariner from territorial waters off Nuuk.
These acts suggested that Trump’s claim deflects from US dependence on allies by portraying unilateral aid.
Trump’s humanitarian gestures are seen as tools of influence amid escalating regional competition with Russia and China, as he had proposed in 2019 to buy Greenland for strategic Arctic interests.
2019 Greenland Proposal
During Trump’s first presidency, he publicly announced the idea of the United States purchasing Greenland.
Greenland is an autonomous territory under the Danish Sovereignty, which, according to Trump, is a potentially large estate with strategic value.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen swiftly rejected the notion, stating that Greenland was open for business, not for sale.
Trump responded to Mette, and the episode caused a brief diplomatic split between the U.S. and Denmark.
In 2020, the Trump administration shifted to providing $12 million in economic development aid to Greenland amid growing U.S. concerns about Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic.

US interests in Greenland
In 1867, Secretary of State William Seward commissioned a survey of Greenland. Impressed with the abundance of natural resources on the island, he pushed to acquire Greenland and Iceland for US$5.5 million.
In 1910, the U.S. ambassador to Denmark proposed a complex trade involving Germany, Denmark, and the United States.
Denmark would give the U.S. Greenland, and the U.S. would give Denmark islands in the Philippines.
In 1946, the Truman administration offered to buy Greenland for $100 million, as U.S. military leaders thought it would play a critical role in the Cold War.

About Greenland
In 1953, Greenland gained constitutional rights and became a country within the Kingdom of Denmark.
It was granted self-rule in 1979, and in 2009, it became a self-governing country, still within the Kingdom of Denmark.
The Kingdom of Denmark includes Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
Denmark recognizes the government of Greenland as an equal partner and recently gave it a more significant role in the Arctic Council.
