Veteran journalist Pamela Sittoni has landed a new role at Nation Media Group (NMG), months after her exit.
In a notice dated Thursday, May 15, the company announced her appointment as Public Editor, effective May 1, 2025.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Pamela Sittoni as the Public Editor of Nation Media Group PLC (NMG),” the notice stated.
Pamela succeeds Peter Mwaura, who retired in December 2024.
Her primary responsibility will be to ensure that NMG remains transparent, accessible, and accountable to its audiences, adhering to its internal editorial standards as well as the country’s Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism.
As Public Editor, Pamela will operate independently as the representative of NMG’s audiences across the group’s print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
What Sittoni will be doing at NMG
She will handle complaints related to accuracy, fairness, balance, and ethical concerns, while monitoring overall compliance with the editorial policy and guidelines in news gathering and presentation.
Additionally, she will play a vital role in public education, helping audiences understand the processes, norms, and responsibilities of journalism in a democratic society.

According to NMG, the appointment of a Public Editor who is independent of management and reports to the Editorial Committee of the Board reflects its strong commitment to journalistic integrity, ethical conduct, and self-regulation. It also demonstrates an enduring belief in openness to critique as it strives to be the Media of Africa for Africa.
Pamela’s Career
Pamela is a seasoned journalist and communications professional with extensive experience in several senior editorial roles at leading media organizations.
Until June 30, 2024, she served as the Group Managing Editor at NMG, overseeing the output of all the group’s platforms.
She made history as the first woman to hold the positions of Executive Editor and Managing Editor of the Daily Nation at NMG, having been appointed in January 2019.

Pamela Sittoni previously held various roles, including Executive Editor in charge of Partnerships and Managing Editor at both the Daily Nation and The EastAfrican.
She also worked as a Managing Editor at Standard Media Group from November 2003 to July 2006 and as a Communications Specialist for UNICEF from July 2006 to July 2012.
Also, she holds a master’s degree in New Media, Democracy, and Governance from the University of Leicester. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Literature and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi.
