14-year-old Jackson Tito, the boy from Nairobi’s Dandora estate whose story of caring for his four younger siblings captured the hearts of Kenyans, is set to visit Parliament next week, with support from President William Ruto and Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda.
President Ruto recently gifted Tito’s family a fully furnished three‑bedroom affordable housing unit in Machakos County.
The family has since relocated from their single room in Dandora’s Maili Saba informal settlement to their new home, marking a dramatic turning point after years of extreme hardship.
Senator Mutinda, who has played a central role in supporting the family, announced that she will host Tito and one of his classmates at Parliament next week.
During the visit, Tito is expected to meet Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
“So Tito has settled and reported in school, and next week I have invited them to Parliament with his classmates to be able to visit Parliament, meet the Speaker of the Senate, and also be able to feel that they can also belong there and become future leaders,” Senator Mutinda said in an interview with The Kenya Times.
State House Engagement Sparks Support for Tito
In the interview on May 6, Senator Mutinda explained how she brought Tito’s story to the attention of President Ruto during a State House engagement.

“In our engagements when we were in the State House with the President, I told the President about the story of Tito. And it really touched him so much, and he said, ‘Fine, let’s talk to the PS Housing, I’ll see what to do,’” she said.
The following day, the President directed that the family be provided with a dignified home under the Affordable Housing Programme.
The house was fully furnished, and the family had already moved in after completing the required registration.
Senator Mutinda also acted swiftly to address the children’s education. She facilitated Tito’s admission to Visa Oshwal Primary School in Parklands, Nairobi, where he is now a boarding Grade Eight pupil.
She further supported Tito’s friend Mwangi, who had also dropped out of school due to a lack of fees.
“Tito comes with his friend, called Mwangi. The boy needed books, and I gave him and Tito textbooks for Grade Eight. I also got a full scout uniform for Tito’s friend called Mwangi,” she explained.
Tito’s four younger siblings have been enrolled at St. Mary’s Boys School near the family’s new home in Machakos.
The Senator said she deliberately chose Machakos to give the family a fresh start in a new environment, noting that Tito had previously lived in Kitui and was unwilling to return due to past mistreatment.
She described the children’s mother as a woman who had endured significant hardship but remained devoted to her children.
How the Story of Tito Touched the Nation
Tito rose to national attention in April after emotional videos of him caring for his four younger siblings went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms.

In the shared clips, the young boy was seen cooking meals over an open fire, fetching water, collecting and selling recyclables at the Dandora dumpsite, and struggling to meet the family’s basic needs after dropping out of school.
The videos showed the dire living conditions in which the family lived, cramped inside a single‑room shack where the children often slept on the floor while their mother faced her own challenges.
Tito’s sense of responsibility and maturity at such a young age touched thousands of Kenyans, triggering sympathy, online engagement, and an outpouring of support from well‑wishers across the country.
