The Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has confirmed the release of Nakuru-based pastor Elias Mutugi Njeru, the suspect in the attack on Florence Wanjiku alias Shiku.
Njeru was arraigned before the Principal Magistrate Daisy Mose at the Molo Law Courts and charged with attempted murder contrary to Section 220(a) of the Penal Code.
The suspect is alleged to have unlawfully and intentionally stabbed Florence Wanjiku, with whom he is reported to be in a romantic relationship.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 26, ODPP said Njeru pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a bond of Ksh500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh200,000.
The matter is scheduled for mention on December 9, 2024, for further directions.
Njeru Surrenders to Police
This comes after the Njeru surrendered to the police in Nakuru on Monday, November 25, accompanied by his lawyer.
“Today, 25/11/2024, one Elias Mutugi Njeru, male adult and a suspect in the attempted murder case of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, reported at Menengai Police Station, surrendered at Nakuru Police Station in the company of his lawyer Gakuhi Chege and Associates Advocates,” NPS said.
NPS confirmed that Njeru has been re-arrested and placed in custody, appearing fit, pending collection by Menengai Police Station.
Shiku is currently receiving treatment at Optimum Current Care Hospital in Nakuru.
Police Report on Florence Wanjiku Attack
A police report indicated the incident occurred on Friday, November 22, and was reported by a male resident of Kiamunyi.
“That today, 22/11/2024, at around 0330hrs, he got information that his colleague namely Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, female adult, had been attacked,” read part of the police report.
“She was rushed to Optimum Current Health Care Hospital, where she has been admitted and found with several stab wounds.”
NPS preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was attacked by Njeru, who is also her business associate at Indigenous Land Properties Limited.

The police reported that Menengai OCS was handling the case, with efforts underway to ensure the suspect’s arrest.
Additionally, the police called on the suspect to present himself at the nearest police station or to any police officer.
“We are also appealing to any member of the public with information that may lead to his arrest to inform the nearest police station,” read another part of the police report.
Police officers from Menengai Police Station visited the scene and proceeded to the hospital where Shiku was admitted.

How it Happened
According to the report, the incident occurred at their rental house in Olive following domestic disputes.
The police stated that the victim had been visited by her boyfriend, leading to a quarrel.
The altercation escalated, and Njeru stabbed Shiku on the head and hands.
“The two had some domestic quarrels, resulting in the accused stabbing the victim severally on the head and hands. The victim is currently admitted at the said hospital in a serious condition,” the report states further.
