The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day weather forecast for the period between Friday, August 8, and August 12, 2025.
In its forecast, Kenya Met stated that moderate (5–20mm) to heavy (>20mm) rainfall is expected to continue across the country.
According to the weatherman, scattered rainfall is expected to continue and intensify over several parts of the country, including Central Highlands (including Nairobi), Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya.
Some areas may experience isolated thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
In the Nairobi Metropolis, Kenya Met said that residents should expect moderate to heavy rains from Friday morning to Saturday, with isolated storms likely in the afternoon/evening.
“Rainfall is expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya. Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley. o Strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are expected over the Coast (and Kenya’s territorial waters), the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” said Kenya Met.
Detailed Kenya Met forecast for August 8 – August 12, 2025
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley region (including Nairobi), showers are expected on Friday and Saturday in a few places in the mornings, while cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals will be experienced on the other days.

This area also covers Central Kenya counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.
Showers are expected in the afternoons across all areas within this region, as per the advisory, while nights will remain partly cloudy, with a chance of showers on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
Also, residents in this region will experience minimum temperatures of up to 9°C and maximum temperatures of 27°C.
On the other hand, several areas within the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley (Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties) are expected to receive showers and thunderstorms in all five days.
These regions are also expected to experience maximum temperatures of 30°C, with minimum temperatures dropping to 8°C.
At the same time, the weather department stated that areas within the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, are expected to experience minimum temperatures of 10°C and maximum temperatures of 30°C.

According to Kenya Met, the high temperatures will mostly occur during the afternoons, which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals, except for Friday.
Most nights will remain partly cloudy, except for Friday, when there is a chance of showers over a few places.
Mornings throughout the forecast period will generally remain cloudy, followed by sunny intervals later in the day.
Other areas
The weatherman has also projected that maximum daytime temperatures will exceed 29°C in the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal areas of Tana River County.
For most of the forecast period, both mornings and afternoons are expected to experience sunny intervals. However, on the morning of Tuesday, August 12, there is a chance of light showers in a few locations.
Nights will mostly remain partly cloudy, with minimum temperatures around 19°C, except on Tuesday night when weather conditions may vary.
In northeastern Kenya—covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—dry weather is expected to persist throughout the period, with maximum daytime temperatures reaching up to 33°C. Sunny intervals are forecast for both mornings and afternoons, while nights will remain partly cloudy.
In northwestern Kenya, specifically Turkana and Samburu counties, showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few places on Friday and Saturday, particularly during the afternoon and night. On Sunday and Monday, there is a chance of rainfall in isolated areas, while Tuesday is expected to be sunny throughout the day.
Nighttime weather in these northwestern regions will see showers in a few places on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights are expected to be partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures in this region are forecast to reach up to 35°C, while minimum temperatures may drop to around 11°C.
