Tahidi High was a Kenyan program that first aired in 2006 and thereafter aired on every Tuesday at 7:30 PM on Citizen TV until 2020.
The hilarious actors of Tahidi High made the show worth watching, with each portraying distinct characters with excellence.
The cast which featured some big names including OJ, Freddy, Shish, and Tanya captivated fans with the picture-perfect re-enaction of the mischievous moments in high school that made the experience a highlight reel.
The program highlighted school life and the various challenges faced by both students and staff members.
Sarah Hassan (Tanya)
Sarah rose to prominence as Tanya in the long-running high school drama Tahidi High, a debut role that earned her a CHAT Award for Best Actress in 2010 and 2011.
Since then, she has appeared in numerous series and films and hosted several TV shows, earning multiple awards.
In 2021 she won the Best Actress in a Film Kalasha 2021(Just in Time) and Best Film at the AMVCA Awards 2021 for “Crime and Justice,” the first-ever Showmax Original Series in Kenya.

She also starred in several series, including “Demigods,” “Saints,” and “Changes,” and went on to host the East African dance show “Sakata Mashariki.”
In 2013, she took over Noni Gathoni’s role as the main host of “The Wedding Show,” continuing until December 2014.
She is the founder of Alfajiri Productions and played the lead role in Citizen TV’s Zora show and features in the Zari series where she plays the role of Nina.
Tahidi High Actor Dennis Mugo (OJ)
Ex Tahidi High actor Dennis Mugo alias OJ was a household name in Kenya for several years due to his ‘bad boy’ role in the Citizen TV show.
However, his fame gradually faded away after parting ways with Tahidi High due to various circumstances.
Speaking during a past interview, OJ revealed that his life was never the same again during his time off the screens.
This affected him so much, he said, that it resulted in depression forcing him to cover it with alcoholism and smoking.
He, bounced back and vied for the Member of County Assembly seat for Ruguru Ngandori Ward in Embu on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the August General Election but was defeated by Harrison Sammy.
OJ currently works for the Embu County Government in the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports. He oversees the Talent Academy and manages the entire facility. OJ is also a producer who hosts shows on his YouTube account dubbed Aki Si Poa.
Abel Mutua (Freddy)
Abel Mutua, better known as Freddy, portrayed one of the most notorious characters on set, becoming a highlight of the show with his comical skits and macho, confident nature.
The actor actively participates both on camera and behind the scenes.

He has written scripts for various local shows, including The Real House Helps of Kawangware, Hapa Kule News, Mother-in-Law, and Lol show, to name a few.
He also stared in the comedy hit series Andakava, alongside Timothy Kimani, also known as Njugush.
Mutua is also behind the production of “Wakurugenzi” and “The Grand Little Lie.”
Additionally, he co-founded Phil It Productions and runs his own YouTube channel.
Philip Karanja (Melvin)
Philip Karanja portrayed who was known as Melvin was a silent character easily angered by his colleagues during the show. In real life, Karanja has become a renowned actor.
He co-owns Phil-it Productions with Mutua and previously worked as a film director at Royal Media Services (RMS) Ltd.
He has produced local shows such as Sue na Johnie, The Real Househelps of Kawangware, Click Click Bang and A Grand Little Lie.
Jackie Matubia (Jolene)
She is a well-known Kenyan actress, digital content creator, and television personality.
Jackie worked with switch TV before moving to Rembo TV.
She gained significant popularity with her role as Nana on Citizen TV’s “Zora” program.
She also runs her own business, Fabulously Forward, which sells health and beauty products.
Joseph Kinuthia (Omosh)
Joseph Kinuthia gained fame for his role as Omosh, a school gardener. However, after the show ended, he struggled to earn an income.
He has also had some rough spells in his life after struggling with alcohol addiction for over twenty years.
In response, Kenyans of goodwill raised funds to help jumpstart his career, and he received a house and other lucrative opportunity.
