The Ukrainian administration, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has openly celebrated the destruction of two major oil tankers belonging to Russia.
The attack occurred on the night of Saturday, November 29, and targeted two sanctioned Russian tankers in the Black Sea.
An official from Ukraine’s security services stated that the vessels were part of a “shadow fleet” used by Russia to bypass Western sanctions imposed after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Zelenskyy Administration Happy with Latest Attack Against Russia
The attack reportedly aimed to disrupt Russia’s oil revenues, which are critical for funding its war efforts.
The Ukrainian official boasted that both tankers sustained critical damage and were effectively taken out of service.
“Video footage shows that after being hit, both tankers sustained critical damage. This will deal a significant blow to Russian oil transportation,” the Ukrainian official stated.
According to the official, Ukraine used Sea Baby drones made in the country to strike a location off the Turkish coast. This led to a rescue operation by the Turkish coast guard. All crew members on the vessels were reported safe.

This attack on Russian oil tankers followed a night of intense strikes on Kyiv on Friday, November 28, which extended into the early hours of Saturday.
Those strikes killed at least three people and wounded 30. President Zelenskyy reported that 600 drones and 35 missiles struck the nation in one of the largest bombardments in recent times.
The strikes coincide with intensified discussions regarding a potential ceasefire between Zelenskyy and Putin.

Meanwhile, during a working visit to Kyrgyzstan on November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated that the draft peace plan discussed recently with the United States and Ukraine could serve as a foundation for future negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.
However, he stressed that any agreement would require Ukraine to relinquish control over certain territories.
“If Ukrainian troops leave the territories they occupy, then we will stop fighting,” Putin stated.
