Residents of Kiambu County can now breathe a sigh of relief after police arrested three suspected criminals who are carjackers.
Addressing the press on Monday, February 13, Officer Commanding Kiambu Police Station Mohamed Badel said the suspects were fished out from their hideout in Kirigiti where they had been laying low for a week.
Badel exposed the trickery which the gang used to evade tracking down the stolen vehicles by investigative officers.

“They print out numbers and letters on adhesive papers on yellow and white backgrounds, which they mount on number plates to alter the registration numbers of the cars,” Badel said.
The OCS further disclosed that the carjacker targeted specific vehicles and had a well-calculated plan to break into and drive away with the cars.
“The gang would park their get-away car behind the target vehicle to shield themselves from the public, then break into the vehicles, short-wire them and drive off,” Badel stated.
Badel added that the gang would also ensure that the location was not fitted with CCTV cameras.
Police recovered some of the printouts which will be used as exhibits in court.
The suspects were placed under custody at the Kiambu Police Station where they are being processed for arraignment.
Badel confirmed that eight other suspects linked to armed robbery incidences, including the theft of phones were also apprehended during the raid.
Officers recovered stolen phones, homemade crude weapons such as knives and daggers, and sim cards.
The arrest came after numerous reports by members of the public of vehicle theft incidences, especially from residential areas.
In most incidences, the vehicles are never found as they are quickly torn apart by a team of mechanics who then sell them as spare parts in the black market.
