Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway have been warned to expect temporary traffic disruptions over the weekend.
In a statement on Thursday, April 10, the Moja Expressway Company, responsible for managing the Nairobi expressway, stated that key access points will be closed to facilitate infrastructure development.

Further, Moja Expressway announced the closure of the Mlolongo Toll Station and Syokimau Entrance A (located opposite Dinlas Pharma).
The tolls will remain closed from 10:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, to 8:00 AM on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

At the same time, the company explained that the planned closure is meant to allow for the safe continuation of construction work on the Katani pedestrian overpass.
“Please note that Mlolongo Toll Station and Syokimau Entrance A (opposite Dinlas Pharma), will remain closed on Saturday, 12th April 2025 from 10:00 pm to Sunday, 13th April 2025 at 8:00 am to pave way for the ongoing construction of the pedestrian overpass at Katani area,” read the statement in part.

Moja Expressway Issues Alternative Routes
Consequently, the company stated that the temporary closure is expected to significantly affect traffic along the route.
Therefore, alternative access routes have been recommended for affected motorists.
Drivers heading toward the Central Business District (CBD) via the Mlolongo and Syokimau entrances are encouraged to use the SGR entrance.
On the other hand, motorists destined for Mlolongo are advised to exit via the JKIA interchange.
“CBD-bound motorists using the Mlolongo and Syokimau entrance A are advised to use the SGR entrance, while Mlolongo-bound motorists are advised to use the JKIA exit.
“Please plan your trips accordingly as the closure will significantly affect traffic,” added the statement.

Closure of Thika Road
Earlier, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary closure of a section of the Thika Superhighway (S1) at the Kihunguro area to facilitate critical highway maintenance works.
The closure is set to commence on the night of Friday, April 11, 2025, and will continue until the morning of Monday, April 14, 2025.
Additionally, the public notice from KeNHA indicated that the affected section of the road will be closed each night from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
Consequently, motorists travelling from Nairobi to Thika and vice versa have been advised to use the service lanes as indicated in the drawing or as directed by traffic marshals.
