Mohamad Safa, Executive Director and Main Representative of PVA at the United Nations (UN), has announced the suspension of all his duties, including his participation in committees and groups in which he served.
In a statement dated March 27, 2026, Safa stated that pressure from a powerful lobby has influenced UN decisions, preventing the organization from properly addressing human rights violations and upholding international law.
“After much reflection, after three years of patience since I wanted to resign in 2023, and after it became clear to me that some UN seniors are serving a powerful lobby and not the UN, I have decided to suspend all my duties as PVA Main Representative at the UN in New York, Geneva and Vienna, and from all UN committees/groups of which I am a member,” read part of the statement.
Mohamad Safa has been a vocal advocate for human rights, international law, and climate action, serving as one of the UN Champions of the Earth.
However, he claims that after expressing dissenting views in 2023, he faced criticism, financial penalties, and threats against his family, leading him to suspend his duties.

He further criticized the UN for failing to classify the violence in Gaza as genocide and alleged war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Lebanon, while also questioning the legality of military actions against Iran.
Additionally, Mohamad Safa accused senior UN officials of shielding decision-makers in Israel and the United States from accountability, saying their actions favored powerful external interests over the UN’s founding principles.
He argued that misinformation campaigns regarding Iran’s nuclear threat and pro-war agendas further compromise UN integrity.
Further, Mohamad Safa stated that until the reform processes outlined by the UN Secretary-General are fully implemented, he cannot participate in UN activities.
He also urged the organization to restore its integrity, uphold human rights, and act independently of lobbying pressures.
