The selection panel for the recruitment of TSC commissioners has announced vacancies for two members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), inviting applications from qualified individuals to serve on the commission.
In a notice dated April 24, the government said the recruitment will be conducted by the Selection Panel for the Recruitment of Nominees for Appointment as Members of the Teachers Service Commission, which has been tasked with identifying and nominating suitable candidates in line with the Constitution and the law governing the commission.
“The Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons to be considered for nomination for appointment as two (2) Members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC),” the notice reads.
The appointments will be made on a full‑time basis, with successful candidates serving a single, non‑renewable term of six years.
Roles of the TSC Commissioners
Once appointed, the commissioners will be responsible for ensuring the Teachers Service Commission functions effectively and fulfills its constitutional mandate.

Their responsibilities will include formulating policies, providing strategic leadership and oversight of the commission’s secretariat, and ensuring that teachers comply with the teaching standards prescribed by law.
The commissioners will also manage the teachers’ payroll, facilitate career progression and professional development, including the appointment of head teachers and principals, and monitor the conduct and performance of teachers in the teaching service.
Who Can and Cannot Apply
The Selection Panel has outlined strict eligibility and disqualification criteria for the TSC applicants seeking appointments as members of the Teachers Service Commission.
To be eligible, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya. Candidates are also required to have at least 10 years of experience in education, governance, management, or law.
In addition, all applicants must meet the leadership and integrity standards set out under Chapter Six of the Constitution, which emphasizes ethical conduct, accountability, and transparency in public service.
However, the notice makes it clear that some individuals are not eligible to apply for the positions. These include serving members of Parliament or county assemblies, as well as officials of political parties.
Members of local authorities are also barred from applying. In addition, anyone who has been found, in accordance with the law, to have misused or abused a State or public office is disqualified.
The restriction also applies to individuals who have been found to have contravened the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution, which sets the standards on leadership and integrity.

How to Apply for the Positions
Applicants need to prepare a short CV of up to three pages and attach copies of their academic and professional certificates, their national ID or passport, and any relevant testimonials or supporting documents.
They should clearly label their application as “Application for the position of two (2) Members, Teachers Service Commission” and submit it either by delivering it in person to Harambee House in Nairobi or by sending it online to the official email address provided by the Selection Panel.
“Names of all applicants will appear on the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs website,” the notice states.
Shortlisted candidates and interview schedules will later be published in the daily newspapers and on the ministry’s website after the application window closes.
Applicants who are shortlisted will be required to submit clearance certificates from the Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC), the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), a credit reference bureau, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
Terms of Service and Deadline of Application
The TSC positions are full‑time, and commissioners will not be allowed to hold any other public or private office or engage in other gainful employment. Their remuneration and benefits will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
The Selection Panel cautioned applicants against lobbying for the positions.
“Canvassing for these positions will lead to automatic disqualification,” the notice warns.
The panel also encouraged applications from underrepresented groups, including women, youth, minorities, marginalized groups, and persons with disabilities.
All the TSC applications must reach the Selection Panel on or before Monday, May 11, 2026, at 5.00 p.m. East African Time. Additional details are available on the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes website.
