Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has spoken about popular Mugithi artist Samuel Muchoki, alias “Samidoh,” regarding his resignation.
Samidoh has faced criticism from senior police officers over allegations of neglecting his duties.
In an interview on August 20, 2025, the Inspector General of Police said Samidoh had resigned from the National Police Service (NPS) and is now free to pursue his personal interests.
“We accepted his resignation letter, and I can tell you that he is free to do the things he wishes to do,” said the Inspector General.

Reports indicate that the popular Mugithi artist resigned from the NPS on July 20, 2025, while serving under the Administration Police Service, where he was attached.
For some time, Samidoh had been at odds with the NPS after a video surfaced showing him performing in a bar on May 16, 2025, where he led revelers in chanting “Wantam” (meaning “one term”), a slogan perceived as anti-President William Ruto.

The phrase, popularized by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is widely associated with opposition to President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027 and is considered a politically charged term.
Following the incident, Samidoh was transferred on May 18, 2025, from the Central Region Police Headquarters in Nairobi to the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
Popular Mugithi Musician Secures Anticipatory Bail
The NPS, whose Service Standing Orders (SSO) prohibit officers from engaging in political activities, viewed Samidoh’s performance as a potential breach of regulations.
As a result, the transfer was seen as a disciplinary measure. Further complicating matters, Samidoh was accused of desertion after failing to report to Gilgil following the transfer, prompting the NPS to issue an arrest warrant in June 2025.

However, Samidoh disputed the desertion claims, producing an official travel-clearance letter dated April 25, 2025, signed on behalf of the Inspector General, which authorized him to travel to the United States from May 20 to June 9, 2025, for a private visit.
In July 2025, he secured anticipatory bail from the High Court, which blocked his arrest over the desertion allegations.
As part of the bail conditions, he was required to surrender his passport. The anticipatory bail was part of his legal effort to shield himself from further disciplinary action.
