Several private Kenyan universities have adopted a trimester-based program, allowing students to complete their degrees in 2.5 years.

Kenyan public universities offer a standard four-year program for completion of a degree, depending on the program studied.

According to the Commission for University Education (CUE), for the completion of a degree, eight semesters are to be covered in Kenyan universities.

Under the trimester program, students study for the whole year and have no long holiday; three semesters are completed in one year, each lasting 14 to 16 weeks.

This enables students to complete the 8 semesters as guided by the Commission for University Education in about 3 years.

Public universities allow students to go for a long holiday and two semesters covered in a year.
