Longhorn Publishers’ Board of Directors has announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who has led the company for the past seven years.
In a notice dated August 22, 2025, the board stated that Maxwell Wahome will officially step down as CEO effective September 30, 2025.
“The Board of Directors of Longhorn Publishers PLC announces that Mr. Maxwell Wahome will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer, with his last day of service being 30th September 2025,” the notice read in part.
Maxwell Wahome Exits Longhorn Publishers After 7 Years
Wahome has been with the company for nine years, the last seven of which he served as CEO. The Board highlighted his key achievements, including spearheading Longhorn’s expansion into West and Central Africa, launching new digital businesses, implementing more efficient business models, and successfully steering the firm through Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) transition.
“Over this period, he provided visionary leadership and made significant contributions to Longhorn’s growth. His efforts have strengthened the company’s market position and laid a solid foundation for continued success,” the Board noted.
Following his resignation, the Board has appointed Simon Ngigi as Acting Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect to ensure continuity.

Ngigi, who previously served as Longhorn’s CEO between 2015 and 2018, brings over 20 years of experience in strategic leadership, publishing, educational content development, and market expansion.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K).
The Board said it settled on Ngigi due to his proven track record in strategy execution and business transformation.
About the Outgoing CEO
Meanwhile, the Board expressed gratitude to Wahome for his dedicated service.
“Wahome departs with the Board’s deep appreciation for his dedicated service and best wishes for continued success in his future endeavors,” the statement added.
Wahome has more than 15 years of leadership experience across East and Southern Africa, spanning publishing, education, energy, manufacturing, mining, and financial services.

He has held C-suite roles in publicly listed companies and professional services firms, with strong expertise in corporate finance, business strategy, operational execution, and digital transformation.
Before joining Longhorn, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in both Kenya and South Africa as a Senior Manager.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), both qualifications obtained at Strathmore University.
