Moses Kuria Breaks Silence on Why He Resigned as Ruto’s Advisor

Former Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has broken his silence on the reasons behind his resignation as President William Ruto’s advisor.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Kuria clarified that he had not been fired but had voluntarily resigned due to the Saba Saba events, which he said had deeply unsettled him.

“I resigned because Saba Saba shattered me—shattered me totally. I was actually outside the country on a flight, and since there was internet onboard, I was coordinating through WhatsApp. I would get information from wonderful people in Ruiru, Thika, and other places, and then coordinate with security agencies,” said Kuria.

Moses Kuria Denies Being Fired

Kuria explained that the events compelled him to engage with both opposition and government figures in an attempt to understand why there was chaos during Saba Saba.

Upon seeking clarity, he said both sides resorted to blame games, which prompted him to step aside and reflect.

“The following day, I asked people from both sides. I spoke to the opposition and asked them, What is this? It is said that you are organizing the mayhem.

Why organize violence against our own people? They told me it was not them but the government. I then spoke to government officials at all levels, including the President himself. I told him, Mr. President, the opposition claims it is government people behind this destruction,” Kuria recounted.

Former Senior Economic Advisor Says Ruto Never Informed Him Why He was Removed as CS

At the same time, former President Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor spoke about why he was removed as Cabinet Secretary. Kuria stated that the Head of State did not give him an explanation as to why he was fired as a CS.

“There was no explanation given as to why I was removed as CS. Nobody has ever made a stab at Industrial in this country, as Moses Kuria, when he was minister for trade. That’s a fact, that will go down on record.

Nobody tried to reform NYS the way I tried to reform. For the 20 months I was in Cabinet, I am very proud, I walk with my head high and I sleep very soundly. I am a firm believer that I don’t have to be in government to make positive changes in society,” Kuria said.

Moses Kuria resigned from his position as Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto on July 8, 2025.

His resignation marked the end of nearly three years of service in various high-level roles within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

During the period he served in President Ruto’s government, he first of all worked as the Cabinet Secretary for Industrial Trade and Investment and then he was transferred to the docket of Public Service, where he was the CS and later he was appointed as the Senior Economic Advisor.
