Safaricom has clarified whether a user can opt out of the Okoa Jahazi service, just like the Fuliza service, which allows opt-in and opt-out.
Mwaniki, A user on X, asked Safaricom whether he could opt out of the service.
According to the Safaricom, Okoa Jahazi service remains a permanent feature for all eligible customers and cannot be disabled or opted out of.
“Hi Mwaniki Kariuki, Okoa Jahazi is a permanent service and currently does not have an opt‑out option,” said Safaricom.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest in how the service operates and its accessibility across Safaricom lines.
How Safaricom Auto Okoa Jahazi Works and How to Join
Okoa Jahazi is an emergency airtime advance service offered by Safaricom to prepaid customers.

It allows users to borrow airtime when their balance is insufficient, which is later deducted once they top up.
According to Safaricom, customers are automatically eligible for Okoa Jahazi based on usage history, airtime top-up patterns, and account activity.
To access the service, Eligible subscribers dial *131# or *456*2#, select “Auto-Okoa” and choose “Subscribe” and select the amount of Okoa Jahazi they want to borrow.
On successful subscription, the subscriber will receive a confirmation SMS message.
Once you opt into the Service, an Okoa Jahazi amount will be credited when you initiate a call, and the airtime threshold gets below KSh 5
A notification message will be sent to you to confirm the award of the amount received.
Terms, Conditions, and Service Limitations
Safaricom Auto Okoa Jahazi Service is only applicable if:
- The customer has subscribed to the service by dialing *131# or *456*2#
- The customer has an average monthly revenue usage of Ksh 500 and above
- A customer does not have an existing Okoa Jahazi loan and pays within the required time frame

How to Increase Okoa Jahazi Limit
The borrowing limit under Okoa Jahazi is not fixed and can increase over time based on user behavior.
Safaricom states that the limit is refreshed weekly and if one wants to refresh the limit, the user should dial
“Okoa Jahazi limit is based on your airtime usage previous week and so it is reviewed weekly,” the statement read.
Safaricom uses an automated system that evaluates customer activity.
Key factors that influence limit increases include:
- Frequent and consistent airtime top-ups
- Timely repayment of borrowed airtime
- Active use of Safaricom services such as calls, SMS, and data
- Long-term SIM usage history without defaulting on balances
Customers who regularly repay their borrowed airtime promptly are more likely to see gradual increases in their Okoa Jahazi limit.
