The government has halted the registration of new Environmental Assessment Experts.
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) says the suspension will allow for an audit of the register.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NEMA Director General Mamo B. Mamo said that the audit and streamlining of the register will take place between January 1, 2023 to July 2023.
Mamo noted that the audit of the register has also been necessitated after a review of annual experts practicing license register showed that less than 50 per cent of the registered experts are in practice.
“During this suspension period, issuance of annual practicing license for registered experts shall continue,” the Authority stated.
